Totality over Northwest Maine

The moment of totality over Northwest Maine during the April 8, 2024 solar eclipse across North America. Totality is a surreal experience. Anyone who has experienced it will tell you the photographs don't do it justice.

During totality, the moon covers 100% of the sun, allowing us to see the sun's atmosphere, which appears as a glowing ring in the sky. From our vantage point, we were able to look out over the mountains and valley to see the edge of the shadow, appearing as a 360 degree sunset around us. Venus, seen below the sun and moon, and Jupiter (out of frame) were also visible during the two and a half minutes we were in the shadow.
